Choosing the Right Fence for Calgary Winters

Choosing the Right Fence for Calgary Winters

Calgary winters put fencing through a lot. Repeated freezing and thawing moves the ground, and wind loads test every post and panel. A fence that was built with that in mind lasts considerably longer.

Post Depth Matters Most

Posts set below the frost line are far less likely to heave. This single detail does more for the lifespan of a fence than almost anything else.

Material Choice

Pressure-treated wood remains a practical, cost-effective option for the climate. Cedar holds up well and looks good, at a higher price point.

Drainage and Grade

Water pooling at the base of posts accelerates rot. Getting the grade right around the fence line protects the structure year after year.

Wind Exposure

Solid privacy panels catch more wind than spaced boards. On exposed lots, a small gap between boards reduces the load considerably.

If you are planning a fence for a Calgary property, we are happy to walk through the options with you.
